About the Project
This project runs Monday- Friday, during the entire school day (roughly 8 AM- 2PM).
Artist Brent Coleman will be leading this mural project. The mural design is based a Langston Hughes poem, combining the positive aspirations reflective of the students and the Austell community. To paraphrase the poem "I too Sing America". The centerpiece would be a picture of the school with the Six Flags roller coaster and kids, with the Clarkdale logo. The centerpiece will be surrounded by squares/circles that will allow kids to draw faces or pictures. We will be working with kids of all grades from the whole school, throughout the week.
About the School
Clarkdale Elementary School is a Title I school in Austell, Georgia. From the school: We are focused on teaching and learning ...everyday! Using our SEAMLESS Instructional Framework, we challenge and engage our students to their potential. Our "champion for kids" staff work endlessly to provide quality instruction to help our students meet standards. We take pride in proving real-life experiences for our entire population. As we move towards STEAM, Clarkdale strives to incorporate a plethora of learning from a variety of mediums. We are a diverse school with the majority of our students being African-American, twenty-six percent are Hispanic and ten percent white. Many of our students (86%) are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced lunch. As a result, they face challenges and obstacles that may impact their educational career.
