CURRENT NEEDS:
- Lead Artist(s)
- A LOT of Volunteers to assist at Piedmont Park AND/OR The High Museum
- Volunteers to transport the art project from Piedmont Park to The High Museum
- Volunteer to write a blog post about the event
- Volunteer to take photographs at the event
THE PROJECT:
We will be partnering with Kate's Club to create a collaborative project around National Children's Grief Awareness Day. We will start the project at Piedmont Park during Kate's Club Memory Walk and then move to the High Museum to finish the art piece inviting everyone from the community to come out and collaborate for free (The portion at the High Museum will be in conjunction with their free admission day).
The portion of the project at Piedmont Park will go from 10am - 1pm, with set up time TBD. The portion of the project at the High Museum will go from 1pm-4pm with set up time around noon. This obviously means we will have TWO teams of people going at one time with a limited group starting at the High and more people joining as we finish at Piedmont Park.
The theme this month at the High Musuem is “Around the World in 30 Days." Kate’s Club's vision is “A World in Which it is Okay to Grieve."
So, our project will use the theme "Grief is universal". We want to invite the public to make something that would support or connect with the artwork that we are making with the families at Kate's Club. We want to explore the idea of how the world can support each other with love, compassion, and empathy.
We are not able to use wet paint or chalk with our project at the High Museum, so I (Julie McKevitt) am still figuring out exactly what we are doing for the project. My initial thought is something like what we did for the #HoustonStrong event (here.)
THE ORGANIZATION:
Kate's Club's mission is to empower children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling.
