Tree of Support
Project created and written by Mandy Goodwin, LCSW, MSW
Age
10+
Objective/theme
Identifying your support system
Supplies
Construction paper
Markers/ colored pencils
Directions
Have kids draw or cut out a large tree trunk. The students can also illustrate the base of the tree and surroundings.
Then, have kids draw branches and leaves.
On each leaf, have the child write someone in their support system. Leaves can also be cut out and glued.
Discussion
What was it like to create this piece? How do you feel about seeing your tree? Was it easy or hard to think of people to put on the leaves? Do you feel like you’re on someone else’s support tree? If so, who?
Kids can also share how they engage the people in their tree (i.e. who do they call when they are sad? Who helps them with their homework? etc)
